There had been rumors about a tablet computer which Amazon was working on for some time in the technology circles. But it was not very clear what it was and what was the purpose of it. Most of us thought it is something seperate from the specialized reading device, Kindle. But now there are some suggestions to think in fact this new tablet can be the new version of Kindle. While nothing is offcially confirmed, a techcrunch writer says he not only saw the device and in fact played with it.
According this article, the this new device will be about $250 in price and will run Android(A very customized version of it). It will have a 7" display while there are plans to produce 10" version by next yer. It also raveled that this device will hit the markets before the 2011 Christmas holidays. Yes, this is interesting news, specially if you are a fan of Kindle. But for me there is some sad news too.
The sad news is Amazon seemed to move away from its natural paper like display, which was produced by E Ink. I have posted another article on the new color version of E Ink and thought it will be available on the new color Kindle. But it looks like they have opted to use a display with a backlight, which surely makes me unhappy. But we have to wait and see how it will work. I am curious how kind this new display will be on our eyes and how long the battery will last. Long lasting battery and the paper like display were two main advantages offered by Kindle. So a kindle lacking in both these areas can cause some issues to the Kindle fans.
All said and done, the device will hit the markets by November 2011. We will have to wait until we see the device to draw any conclusions.
